As a new insurance agent, there are some processes you need to follow. These steps are necessary to achieve success in the long run. Insurance agents who were not well experienced before going fully into the industry will face failure.
There are many reasons why we gathered this article for you as a new insurance agent. This can help you learn what the experts do to achieve success. If you follow the process below, a 90% success rate is achievable.
Without further delay, let’s jump right into the main discussion of today.
3 Things New Insurance Agents Should Follow
Three things every new insurance agent should look for an insurance opportunity. These things are listed and explained below:
- Good lead program
- Mentorship
- Simplicity
Good lead program
One leads the lead. That’s going to be your chance. To educate yourself on the process. That’s going to give you a chance to get in front of people, to talk to people. So you want to make sure whatever opportunity you’re looking at has some type of lead program.
You need a program or a system that’s going to allow you to talk to as many people as possible. The more people you talk to, the quicker you will become proficient. So, again, any system you’re looking at, you have to make sure there’s a good lead program.
Mentorship
The next one is mentorship. This is crucial. Many people join their best friend, someone they know, or a family member. They do this because that person has an insurance license and works for another company. But they might not be fully committed.
They might be part time. They might not have even got started yet. And you have to look at this person like this is your business partner, right?
Family doesn’t always make the best business partners. Friends don’t always make the best business partners. You want to find somebody that’s very proficient in what they’re doing. That way they can teach you and see how to be proficient as well.
So the mentor is going to be more important than the company in my opinion. Right? You could work for any company you want. If the person’s heart is not fully committed, it can be the best company in the world.
You’re not going to have the mentorship that you need to learn your new trade, right? So you need to find a good mentor. Find someone strong. They should have the time to show you how to do what they’ve done. Look for someone you would want to switch places with.
Simplicity
Another thing that I think is extremely important and a lot of new agents get confused with this is simplicity. A lot of new agents get their insurance license. They may get multiple licenses to sell multiple products. Then they decide to work with this company that has multiple carriers and a ton of different products. So what just happened?
You’re brand new. You know nothing about this industry. Instead of mastering one thing, you are attempting to learn many things at the same time. Do you have a better chance of learning something new when you learn 12 things at once? Or when you could focus on one thing?
Keep it simple at the start. Even if the opportunity allows you to sell other products, focus on simplicity. You might also get the chance to work with other carriers. I sell one product with one carrier because of the simplicity. It’s because of the duplication. It’s also because of how easy it is for me to teach another agent how to succeed with our system.
Bottom Line
Those are three things that you want to look for in an opportunity. You need to keep this in mind. If you ask people what company you should work for in the insurance industry, everyone will try to recruit you. They’ll say anything necessary. Their goal is to persuade you to work with them. So make sure you look at those three things.
Am I going to have people to talk to? Will I have somebody I can call multiple times a day? Can someone show me the ropes? Will they teach me how to be successful at what I am doing? And is this system simple enough and easy enough that I don’t have a long learning curve? So I want to quit before I even figure that things out.
